PRP(Platelet Rich Plasma)

Introduction To PRP Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP is a concentrated plasma protein which is rich in platelets. It is derived from the whole blood and then the red cells are centrifuged to be removed. It is also known as an autologous conditioned plasma and it has several growth factors and other cytokines. PRP for hair therapy is divided into three basic steps of medical treatment, which include drawing patient’s blood, processing it and then inserting it back in the scalp of the patient.

Indication

The people who are dealing with the problems of any kind of alopecia should avail this treatment. In simple terms, the people who are experiencing hair fall at a rapid rate should definitely opt for this treatment.

Duration

A single session lasts for more than an hour as the pre-procedure time is around one hour. The head is cleaned and a specific gel is applied an hour prior to the therapy. It takes around four to six weeks to complete the treatment. Follow up or maintenance sessions are also required to be attended every four to six months, depending upon an individual’s need.

Procedure

Plate Rich Plasma is a three-step treatment process. The steps are mentioned below:

  • Step 1:The blood is drawn from the patient’s body, preferably arms. As the blood is derived from the body of the patient, there are hardly any risks of transmitted diseases.
  • Step 2: The blood derived from the patient’s body is then transferred to the centrifuge. A centrifuge is a machine that spins rapidly to separate fluids of different densities. The blood is kept in the machine for approximately ten minutes. After ten minutes, the blood comes out into three separate layers of red blood cells, platelet poor plasma, and platelet-rich plasma.
  • Step 3:This is the final step where the plasma that is platelet-rich is being extracted into a syringe. It is then inserted into the affected areas of the scalp. This boosts the natural hair growth.

Benefits

PRP injections trigger the natural regrowth of hair and it is maintained due to the increased blood supply to the hair follicles. It also increases the thickness of the hair shaft.

Sessions

Generally, the patient has to take three treatment sessions at an interval of four to six weeks. However, for extreme cases, it is usually suggested to repeat the session every two weeks for four sessions. The maintenance sessions are to be availed every four to six months to maintain growth and regeneration.

Results

The patients can witness the results within the first three weeks. Considerable results can be witnessed after twelve weeks. It is important for the patients to maintain the consistency and they should not skip the maintenance sessions. Consult a famous dermatologist for best results.
