Male Pattern Baldness

Introduction to Male Pattern Baldness

The male pattern baldness (MPB) is a type of androgenetic alopecia that is responsible for hair loss in more than 95% of men. It is a typical pattern of hereditary baldness found in male with visible hair loss on the temples and crowns.

Causes

Around 95% of men having thinning hair generally blame this condition. It is caused due to the hereditary genes which one gets from their parents. As per researchers in this field, the gene may decide how sensitive the hair follicles will be to a typical hormone known as DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), that actually makes the follicles shrink. Diseases like thyroid or anemia can be the reasons too. Use of blood thinners, steroids or even high doses of Vitamin A can cause this pattern of hair loss in men.

Treatments

Therapies

  • Minoxidil Therapy

There is no specific therapy that one can apply for treating male-pattern baldness. Although there are some medications which may be recommended by a dermatologist after analysis of the case type to control hair loss and slow it down. Minoxidil therapy is one of the most popular treatments recommended by dermatologists to be applied on the scalp. Controlling stress and smoking can also help to restrict this hair loss pattern. Minoxidil therapy is effective in promoting the growth of hair in men suffering from androgenic alopecia. Close to 40% of men using Minoxidil therapy experienced considerable hair re-growth after 3 to 6 months of time. But to maintain the result one needs to use it at continuous intervals. Your dermatologist can help better with this.

  • PRP Therapy

PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) is another popular therapy for treating hair loss problem. It is a medical treatment done in 3 steps. Here, blood is drawn, processed in a centrifuge, and then the platelets rich in plasma are injected back into the scalp. The therapy is done at an interval of 3 to 4 weeks time. The dermatologist is there to help if you face any kind of slightest discomfort. You need to stop blood thinners and cut down smoking (at least for some time) to achieve satisfactory results.

  • Dermarollers

Dermaroller is used for the stimulation of hair growth. It gives satisfactory results when used with Minoxidil. It increases the absorption power of the skin when you roll it before or after the application of Minoxidil. One can get this treatment done without the use of Minoxidil also. Dermaroller supports in rejuvenating the hair follicles with the increased flow of blood. If you face any discomfort, dermatologists are there for you. You need to follow the instructions of an expert dermatologist or a good skin specialist to protect your hair.
